Keratosis pilaris is characterized by the presence of keratin plugs in the follicular orifices and a varying degree of peripheral erythema.

It is not caused by cold as it is commonly known. It is generally hereditary, but it is also seen in obese, diabetic, kidney failure and other patients.

It mainly affects the arms, thighs, buttocks and chest.

Clinically, gray-white elevations are observed that leave the hair trapped, with redness around it. The skin is rough to the touch.
